Brand new work for Cepas Argentinas

Juan has recently been shooting beverages again for Cepas Argentinas. This time he worked on the popular brand Pronto. 

Nina chair for Rossi

Rossi has recently launched a new model called Nina. They hired Juan to shoot it at a location. The fantastic concrete, wood and glass house was designed by Dieguez-Fridman architects. Art direction was by FF Diseño and the stylist was Silvina Bidabehere. It is always fun to work with this fantastic team.

Portraits of DJs Nijensohn and Bagcheian

Juan has recently been shooting portraits of DJs Daniel Nijensohn and Manu Bagcheian. The soundtrack to Dany´s session was Steve Tibbetts' music while things got electronic at Manuel's photo shoot. The subjects gave Juan the chance to experiment with mysterious lightning and pop colors.

Grand Prize (acquisition) at 103rd Salon Nacional de Artes Visuales

One of the photographs of the CONCRETO exhibition has been awarded the Great Prize (Acquisition) at the most important visual arts competition in Argentina, that is the Salon Nacional. This contest has been held for more than a century (this year is # 103) and is organised by the Ministry of Culture, dependent of National Presidency. It is divided in various disciplines, one of which is Photography. Sydney 2013 #1 was chosen as the very first prize and will be part of the cultural heritage of Argentina. This is why it is called Acquisition. I am very proud right now and happy as well. There will be an exhibition at the Palais de Glace in Recoleta, opening June 10 until July 9th. 

 

Pop singer

Juan worked on the press material for a Colombian pop singer named Manuela Forero Carrillo. The pictures that came out of this electrifying shoot are simply stunning. Great fun for all.

Dino Saluzzi's new album

Dino Saluzzi's new album, El Valle de la Infancia, was released today by ECM Records. It is always good news to get more music by Dino, but in this case we are also looking forward to this release as the cover has got a photograph by Juan, taken in Sweden in 2006. This magical music needed something mysterious, and Manfred Eicher chose this particular picture when he met with Dino and Juan in Oslo, last year. 

Opening of CONCRETO exhibition

The opening was a complete success. Nearly 300 friends (critics, designers, architects, artists, etc) attended the show yesterday. It was fun meeting such wonderful people. Luigi Bosca provided delicious sparkling extra brut wine from La Linda. The photos were very well regarded and admired. Some of them were already sold during the event. The Australian Embassy in Buenos Aires backed the show and was attended by the Ambassador herself, Mrs. Patricia Holmes.

CONCRETO @ Estudio Federico Churba

New photo exhibition "CONCRETO"

A new photo-exhibition by Juan will be opening next Wednesday, April 23rd, at Federico Churba's showroom. Juan met Federico a couple of years ago when they were both handled the Cayc/Parex-Klaukol "Ventanas al futuro" prizes. Some months ago, Juan had to portrait Federico for a story on Argentina to be published in Wallpaper Magazine. Federico invited Juan to put up an exhibition at his space, as he though Juan's work would make a good blend with his pieces. The show is called CONCRETO and consists of 10 large (110X110 cmts) prints, all direct takes, no digital manipulation, of humidity stains found by Juan inside a tunnel in Sydney, 2013. The show is backed by the Australian Embassy in Buenos Aires and will be open until May 30th. The Ambassador Holmes will be attending the opening. The fine prints were made on Epson Cold Press cotton paper. 

Portraits of pop musician Adrián Paoletti

Juan made some portraits of pop-musician Adrián Paoletti, leader of Paoletti & los acordes,  ex-leader of Copiloto Pilato and co-writer with Gustavo Cerati of some of the songs from the Fuerza Natural album. It was an easy task to shoot this wonderful artist and extraordinary face. 

3M corporate building for M/SG/S/S/S

Juan did the shoot of the newly opened 3M corporate building in Garin, 40 kilometers from BA, for M/SG/S/S/S architects. This shocking-red design against a deep blue sky lent itself for many bold compositions.

International Interior Design Association Honor Award

EDG from California has been awarded the Anywhere but Here Honor Award for Elena and Pony Bar at the Four Seasons BA. Juan has shot both spaces and his pictures were used by the design firm to present the project. Being members of the team he and Kimberlie Bloodworth have a good reason to be proud once again.

Kalevi Aho Series on BIS

The Finnish composer Kalevi Aho is probably, alongside Einojuhani Rautavaara and Magnus Lindberg, one of the most relevant composers in contemporary music. These masters are the heirs of Jean Sibelius and continue the symphonic Finnish tradition. Juan has provided the pictures for the covers of the Aho Series at BIS Records, a reason to feel honoured. I encourage you to investigate any of these original releases.

In Rio Negro for Gaucho apples

Juan has recently been to Rio Negro province, home of the world-famous Argentinian apples and pears. Juan spent his first years in the beautiful Rio Negro valley, so it is always feeling home when he has got assignments here. This time he shot the pear and apple harvests for producer and exporter Kleppe Company, responsible for the internationally acclaimed Gaucho brand. These fruits are exported to distant countries such as Germany, China and Scandinavia.

New project for Chandon

Juan did a photo shoot for Chandon sparkling wines. He worked alongside Giorgio Benedetti of The Master Driver on a forthcoming project which will be revealed soon. 

New Beethoven cover for BIS Records

David Kornfeld, at BIS Records, decided on Juan's picture to illustrate the fresh approach to the classical late string quartet masterpieces by Ludwig Van. The boxed three CD package looks very sexy and the music is, of course, one of a kind.

La Linda sparkling wines for Luigi Bosca

Another twist to Luigi Bosca wines. This time we have been working on the new line of La Linda sparkling wines, designed by Lorenzo Shakespear Studio.

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra

The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro David Zinman, during the recording of a new piece by critically acclaimed contemporary composer Anders Hillborg, called "Cold Heat". The session took place at the blue Konserthuset in Stockholm, Sweden, during November 2013 and will be released by BIS soon.

In Oslo for ECM records

Juan visited Oslo, Norway, to shoot the recording sessions of a couple of ECM albums at the legendary Rainbow Studio. Piano music by Dino Saluzzi, performed by Horacio Lavandera and a debut album on ECM by Danish guitar player/composer Jakob Bro. There was a chance of taking some photos of the Dino Saluzzi Trio (Dino Saluzzi/Anja Lechner/Felix Saluzzi) at the amazing venue of the Oslo Opera House. The beautiful weather helped achieve these stunning pictures that will be used on future projects by the trio. Please note the players are flying, condor-style, over the skyline of Oslo. Manfred spent the whole sessions kidding the Saluzzis about them being condors, referring to the previous album by the family "Juan Condori"and also to the fact that they were both born in Salta, a province in Argentina on the Andes, home of our national bird. Besides this, we must agree that Dino's improvisational style might sometimes resemble the feeling of flying, and if we are lucky, might take us on a ride.

Jakob Bro Trio

Another session that took place during Juan's stay in Oslo was the debut album on ECM by the Danish guitar player and composer Jakob Bro. The recording was, again, at the Rainbow Studio and engineered by Jan-Erik, produced by Manfred. NYC based bassist Thomas Morgan and legendary drummer Jon Christensen completed this trio. Christensen played with mostly every giant in european jazz (Garbarek, Jarrett, Stenson, Rypdal, among many others). The amazing colours of autumn helped us find a right spot for the portraits, in spite of the extremely short daylight times. The photos will be used in the forthcoming release.

Dino Saluzzi at the Rainbow Studio

Horacio Lavandera recorded the piano music of the great bandoneon player/composer Dino Saluzzi for ECM Records. The session was held at the legendary Rainbow Studio in Oslo, produced by Manfred Eicher and engineered by Jan-Erik Kongshaug. After listening to ECM albums for more than 35 years it was a memorable experience to share this ocassion with Grammy Award winner founder of ECM and producer Mr. Eicher.
