Shooting the newly opened Alvear Art Hotel in BA

Juan has been hired by José Sutton, owner and CEO of the Alvear Palace Hotel to shoot the entire newly opened Alvear Art Hotel in Buenos Aires. The photo shoot was intense and everything went smoothly thanks to the pro attitude of Marina Bares at the property. The pictures are already online.

My first vinyl cover: "Será una noche"

Unfortunately I began providing images for record covers when vinyl had been long considered extinct. So I had to accept the small size of the final print on the cover of a CD. That is, until now. Luckily, audiophiles have recently re-discovered vinyl as a valid format for good sound, and though for practical reasons I probably won't become another vinyl geek, I am certainly grateful for the sheer size of the album covers. ECM, Mobile Fidelity, Tacet and now MA recordings have decided to release special items as 45rpm high quality pressings.

Todd Garfinkle gave me the opportunity to use their first vinyl release (Será una noche) as a medium for a quite oldish (or should I say vintage) picture of mine, taken in 1991 in Mendoza, on the way to a skying trip to Las Leñas. One of my first "serious" photographs, taken with a Canon T-90, I had the original Agfapan 100 film scanned on a Hasselblad rotary scanner and spent hours restoring the negative. When I first showed a fiber-based print I struggled hard to accomplish to my friend and mentor, Oscar Pintor, he encouraged me and remarked the bold composition of this early picture. That was 22 years ago!
Besides this, I am also happy my photograph is used to illustrate a recording of Pedro Aznar's voice. I have listened to Pedro since the Seru Giran era through the years with the Pat Metheny Group to his solo projects. Hope you enjoy it.

Kalevi Aho et al

Kalevi Aho seems to be the key figure here. This contemporary Finnish composer in residence at the Lahti Symphony Orchestra is extremely prolific and regarded as one of the main figures in serious Finnish music, together with fellow composer Einojuhani Rautavaara. Juan has been lucky enough to provide abstract pictures for most of his new recordings, all released by the Swedish label BIS. But this is not all: the worldwide acclaimed Australian Chamber Orchestra, possibly the most accomplished ensemble of its kind nowadays, has recorded Mendelssohn's wonderful Octet for the label, together with the early double concerto for violin and piano. Juan has provided the cover for this release as well. Finally, another chamber ensemble: The Swedish Chamber Orchestra. David Kornfeld, graphic designer at BIS, chose this bucolic picture Juan took many years ago in Scandinavia, to illustrate the program of music by Schubert, conducted by Thomas Dausgaard.

Juan has been shooting Graffigna Elevation Red Blend wines for Estefania Jacobs and Franco D Angelo at Pernod Ricard. The new line is intended for launch in the US market where the brand has been doing very well indeed.

The Tyranny of Focus

Juan has recently opened his one-man show "The Tyranny of Focus" at Centro Cultural Plaza Castelli, in the beautiful Belgrano R neighborhood here in Buenos Aires. The show will be open 4 to 8 PM every day until March 17th.

Juan has been shooting new talents for Cosmopolitan TV. Among them is Natalia Lafourcade, the wonderful mexican pop star who will be the head of new project called Mi Mundo Privado.

Bodegas Luigi Bosca has just released a new guide about olive oils. Juan has provided the pictures for this publications, first of its kind in Argentina. Giorgio Benedetti (The Master Driver) is responsible for the concept, texts and graphic design. 

Tengo 40, y que? by Valeria Schapira

Juan has made the picture for the cover of the new book by Argentinian author Valeria Schapira, Tengo 40 y que? The book has been just released by Random House Mondadori and promises to become a best seller, just like the previous works by this writer.

Unitec Blue

Juan Has begun providing photos for Eduardo Eurnekian's new company Unitec Blue. This nano-technology oriented co. has asked Juan to develop artsy pictures of highly specific materials used for IDs, credit cards and documents.

Los Donato for Utilisima

A couple of months ago Juan did the shooting for the new TV show Los Donato. An intense session with master chef Donato de Santis and his wife Mica took place at Juan's studio. The show is already on air at Fox's Utilisima channels worldwide. Paula Fraiz was the producer of this photo shoot.

Juan has been recently shooting for Bodega Dante Robino again. Alex Smink, from El Camino, was the art director.

Fans for Fox!

Juan has been contributing with DobleGe for the "Fans" campaign for Fox Latinamerican Channel. The camera was used as a TV screen, viewed from inside. Had never done such a thing before. Quite fun, actually.

Assignment for LSN Global

In February Juan was contacted Robin Key from The Future Laboratory who assigned him the shooting of a new story for the Tribes section on LSN Global. It involved portraying the young blog icon Rocio Perdigues. Rocio is simply stunning and it was wonderful to be able to spend some time working with this young star. Juan met Robin while he worked at Wallpaper City Guides in London.

Vicky López, from Luigi Bosca, assigned Juan the shooting of the recently released new premium olive oil Essencia. The beautiful packaging has been designed by El Gato Ficcardi.
